A new generation of smart buildings has emerged amid growing awareness of sustainability and the environment. In this regard, Dahua has various smart building solutions to make buildings greener and more energy-efficient.

Amid global warming, extreme weather patterns and other environmental issues, countries around the world are focusing on carbon reduction and sustainable development goals (SDGs) to protect the environment. EU, for example, has set the goal to reduce greenhouse emissions by 55 percent by 2050. Also, the U.K. plans to achieve zero emissions by 2050.

In fact, these environmental and sustainability measures are increasingly worked into modern, smart buildings as well. This is in part to address certain pain points facing conventional buildings, where electricity consumption remains high. More and more, these challenges can be addressed with smart building solutions that employ the Internet of Things and the data they generate to make buildings greener and more energy-efficient.

Dahua, a world-leading video-centric AIoT solution and service provider, has played a key role in this building digitization trend with its smart building solutions. “Dahua smart building solutions use energy digital intelligence to give green new life to buildings, and implement the dual carbon strategy with energy conservation and emission reduction,” said Tony Wei, Enterprise Solution Manager at Dahua Technology, adding the solutions fit well with Dahua’s ESG (environmental, social and governance) vision and goals.

“The company has built a clear and transparent ESG governance structure, based on the strategy of ‘digital intelligence empowerment, low-carbon future, shared ecology, and compliant operation,’ and continuously guides all functional centers and member companies of the group to strengthen corporate governance and sustainable business development,” Wei said.

In line with this vision, Dahua’s smart building solutions include the following unique features to enhance energy efficiency, reduce costs, and transform buildings into more sustainable and productive working environments:

Intelligent air switches

The intelligent air switch optimizes electricity consumption and reduces risks through consumption pattern analysis and risk assessment. “The intelligent air switch system carries out real-time monitoring and data analysis of voltage, current, temperature and warns of overvoltage, overload, overcurrent, overheat and other issues,” Wei said. “When an electrical fire warning is issued, the information can be notified to the management center in real time, which ensures the safety of the power line system.”

Intelligent AC energy-saving system

The intelligent electric air conditioning (AC) energy-saving system achieves energy savings through strategic management and control. The user can avoid setting the upper and lower limits of AC temperature through the system. The system restores the initial temperature setting every hour so as to avoid situations where the user adjusts the temperature upon entering the office yet forgets to set the temperature back later. The system can be set to automatically turn off the AC in the meeting room every hour, making sure the AC is properly turned off even if the user leaves the AC on after a meeting.

Paperless conference

Digitization of meetings can reduce paper clutter and contribute to a cleaner environment. Dahua’s paperless conference solution does just that while making conference communication smoother and conference management more efficient.

“The user can synchronize data before the meeting, upload data files through the conference reservation platform, and specify the name of the conference room. The list of people is imported in meeting appointments before the meeting needs to be synchronized to the paperless conference system. During the meeting, you can sign in through the paperless conference system, and the results of the check-in will be synchronized to the sign-in data of the meeting appointment,” Wei said.

Energy efficiency success case: Dahua Headquarters Park

A good example of energy savings achieved through Dahua’s smart building solutions is none other than Dahua’s own global headquarters in Zhejiang, China. Wei said the Dahua Headquarters Park has achieved 30 percent energy savings for air conditioning, 25 percent energy savings for lighting, and 15 percent in comprehensive energy savings.

  • Photovoltaic system: 140+kW rooftop photovoltaic results in annual power generation of 140,000 kWh, saving RMB126,000 in electricity costs;

  • Micro-grid: With a comprehensive perception of energy data based on peak-valley electricity price difference, transformer capacity, and electricity demand forecast, the micro-grid realizes flexible scheduling of energy consumption in the park and optimizes energy consumption costs;

  • Smart air conditioning: 600+ smart air conditioning gateways conduct big data analysis of energy habits of each space, ensuring energy savings while providing comfort;

  • Intelligent lighting: 10,000+ intelligent dimming lamps are installed and add companion lighting to elevator control and parking system;

  • Smart air switch: 9,000+ smart air switches track energy trends in real time and capture carbon footprints while ensuring power safety by issuing early warnings for each circuit (overvoltage, overcurrent, ignition, leakage and more than 20 kinds of abnormal alarms).

Cost-efficiency success case: Korean resident parking lot

Choosing the right security system can make smart buildings more secure as well as energy- and cost-efficient. Here is an example of Dahua’s residential solution by a top construction contractor in Korea that features a 7-color light parking space detection technology to identify disabled, ladies, visitor and special parking spaces. Installing 250 fisheye cameras instead of regular surveillance and parking space detection cameras allowed the operators to reduce camera count and installation costs by half.

“Government policies require that the parking lot in the community and public areas must be monitored without dead angles to ensure personal safety. The fisheye parking space detector can achieve 360-degree panorama while supporting the detection of 6/12 parking spaces, greatly reducing labor costs and wire costs,” Wei said, adding that as much as US$70,000 in savings per building can be achieved with these types of fisheye surveillance camera solutions.

Conclusion

Indeed, a digital transformation trend is sweeping across the construction industry, resulting in more and more green buildings. Dahua has caught up with this trend with smart air switches, AC energy savings, paperless conference and smart parking solutions to make buildings greener, safer and more energy-efficient. With the green building trend set to continue well into the future, we can expect Dahua to roll out more cutting-edge solutions to add new life to buildings.
